WorldCat Local - "Easier discovery of your materials locally and globally"

用OCLC亚太部主任蔡淑恩女士的话说“WorldCat Local是OCLC目前在北美最火红的服务项目，火红的程度类似于几十年前大家排队要成为OCLC会员馆。”这项今年才正式提供的服务项目，在美国已有20家图书馆在排队等候。

华盛顿大学（University of Washington）图书馆馆长不能容忍越来越多的读者不上图书馆网站检索，OCLC也发现WorldCat.org无法满足各图书馆在第一时间向读者展示本馆馆藏的需求。于是双方合作，在WorldCat.org的基础上开发WorldCat Local（WCL），相当于为UWL提供特制的WorldCat.org。，UWL将其命名为“Search UW Libraries and beyond”，强调是图书馆在为读者提供服务。2007年一经推出，即在业界引起轰动，被认为已经部分取代OPAC——号称“Next generation OPAC”。

University of Washington Libraries

通过检索框，可同时检索书、刊、文章（篇名、摘要、引文皆可）。检索结果分为3个层次：

• The local catalog　本馆资源
• A group Catalog　图书馆联盟资源
• WorldCat.org　　OCLC资源
  

页面左侧提供分面检索功能，包括著者、格式、年份、内容、使用对象、语种、主题等限定；右上方显示图书封皮；部分图书提供目次；期刊文章（本馆已购资源）提供全文链接；提供社会化网络功能（包括RSS）。

UWL推出WCL2个月后，借阅量提升80%，其中62%是向其联盟馆借阅——因为WCL同时提供Discovery和Delivery的功能。

2008年，OCLC正式推出WCL。

Ohio State Libraries

Ohio State Library在一则测试公告中，将WCL的优点归纳为：

• A simple search box
• Friendly, easy-to-use results display, including “faceted browsing”
• Searches for materials at OSU, OhioLINK (Ohio libraries shared catalog; includes 86 academic libraries not including OSU), and libraries worldwide
• Displays the availability of materials
• Allows requesting of materials
• Finds articles and provides links to full-text articles online
• Result sets that bring multiple versions of a work together under one record
• Citation formatting options
